Costs & quotes

Compare the scope.
Then compare the price.

A low total and a complete repair are different things. Use these questions to understand what you are actually being offered.

Why there is no one local price here

We have not collected verified Ellensburg repair quotes or established a typical local job price. Driveway length alone cannot describe access, material depth, ground conditions, drainage, equipment, or hauling. A gravel-product price is not an installed repair estimate.

Ask for these items in writing

  • Mobilization: equipment transport, crew minimums, travel, and site setup.
  • Preparation: surface work, removal, excavation limits, and disposal.
  • Materials: specification, unit of measure, quantity, delivery, and possible adjustment.
  • Placement and grading: the area treated, shaping, and finish expected.
  • Compaction: whether it is included and how the scope will be assessed.
  • Drainage: any separate work, design responsibility, and permit needs.
  • Completion: cleanup, access during work, maintenance advice, and any stated warranty.
  • Terms: taxes, payment schedule, quote validity, exclusions, and change-order approval.

Make an apples-to-apples comparison

Compare the same work area, treatment, material, depth, and exclusions. If one proposal addresses the base and another only spreads gravel, they are different projects even if both say “driveway repair.” Ask each contractor to explain assumptions before selecting a total.

Ask: “What could you discover on site that changes this price, and how would I approve that extra work?”

Use volume estimates carefully

For a rectangular area, loose geometric volume in cubic yards is length in feet × width in feet × depth in inches ÷ 324. This is arithmetic, not a recommended material depth or an order quantity. Shape, compaction, waste, delivery limits, and the existing condition can change a real order. Weight depends on the actual material; this guide does not assume a tons-per-yard conversion.

Verify the business, not just the bid

Check the exact legal entity through Washington L&I's Verify tool, including applicable registration, bond, insurance, and other information. A current registration is one check; it does not prove workmanship or that the proposed scope is right for your property.
